“K” is one of Sweden’s greatest poets, holding a prominent place among the eighteen chairs. She is one of Sweden’s most celebrated lyricists, praised and elevated. Then comes the explosion. Her husband is accused of serious crimes, and the media frenzy ensues. They fall together. She falls. Hard. K flees from the country S and its bloodthirsty people. What happens to a person in free fall?

“K” is a monologue based on Katarina Frostenson’s acclaimed book of the same name. It depicts the time from when K’s husband is accused of sexual assaults until six months later. The monologue explores what it’s like to live with a person already judged in the eyes of the media and the public. It is a show that provides insight into a life crisis from within and how K handles the situation, her struggle for love, and dignity. The premiere of “K” took place at Folkteatern in Gothenburg on, 2022, and it became a critical and audience success. It played to sold-out houses and was selected to be part of the Swedish Performing Arts Biennale 2023. The performance is 1.5 hours and can be subtitled in English.

“This is a fascinating, terrifying and moving portrayal of an extremely loyal and private person trying to survive an induced life crisis and ultimately triumph. The raw embrace of rage, paranoia and bitterness that the process boils down to is frankly liberating. K talks about the difficulty of getting rid of the shame. Letting the hate and sarcasm flow seems to be her survival strategy.”
Aftonbladet, October 2022

“Kristian Hallberg’s dramatization is skin to skin with the original but is shortened and placed in a stage now. Ylva Olaison does a brilliant job as the sharp, angry and indignant K, in red pumps and a trench coat haphazardly tied together by a pair of nylon stockings – nailing me to the chair for ninety (k as in concentrated) minutes.”
