We want you to lean in and honestly cackle about what you’d like to do to us. But ssshhhh, you need to whisper, Betty Bracelets might hear us… so that we can feel like the only dish you’d ever eat, the chosen minge to wash you off your sins. 

We’d like you to sit there, and receive (lall). Take in all that is us. From our plates of meat to our bijou bagadgas and our bona vardering minges, from our foofs to the top of our fortuni heads.

Polari var ett hemligt språk som talades bland homosexuella i Storbritannien från början av 1900-talet fram till slutet av 1960-talet. Polari möjliggjorde för queers att kommunicera mer riskfritt med varandra i en tid då risken för arrestering, utpressning och fysiskt våld var stor. Detta språk, fyllt av camp, sexuella insinuationer och sarkasm förhöjde också i sitt format en känsla av att vara del av en exklusiv grupp.

Polari Speaking Sex behandlar språk både som en väg till gemenskap och säkerhet, men också som en säker plats i sig; en hemlig form av kommunikation som verktyg för att uttrycka, dela och utföra queer glädje, queer njutning, queer intimitet och queer erotik i offentligheten.

Uttrycket speaking sex är lånat av Anh Vo; koreograf, dansare och teoretiker baserad i New York. Hen skapar danser och skriver om pornografi och queera relationer, om varande och form, om identitet och abstraktion, om historia och dess koloniala verklighet.

Marcus arbete involverar rörelse och text. I sin praktik vill Marcus hitta eller skapa samband mellan den poetiska/politiska kroppen och det poetiska/politiska språket. Författaren av boken Stone Butch Blues, Leslie Feinstein, skrev en gång gender is the poetry we make of the language we are taught. I Polari Speaking Sex blir även rörelsen och koreografin ett förkroppsligande av den poesin vi skapar utifrån det språk vi lär oss.

ENGLISH

Polari was a secretive language used within gay communities in Britain from the beginning of the 1900s to the late 1960s.

This language enabled queers to communicate with each other in front of straight people, in public. It enabled them to feel part of an exclusive group. This language, being full of camp, innuendo and sarcasm also helped form a resilient worldview in the face of arrest, blackmail and physical violence.

Marcus is inspired by this idea of a secret language as a road to community and safety, but also as a safe space in itself. A secret form of communication as a tool for expressing, sharing and performing queer joy, queer pleasure, queer intimacy and queer eroticism in public.

The expression speaking sex is borrowed from Anh Vo; choreographer, dancer and theoretician based in New York. They create dances and write about pornography and queer relations, about being and form, about identity and abstraction, about history and its colonial reality.

Marcus work involves movement and text. I his artistic practice he wants to find and/or create connections between the poetic/political body and a poetic/political language. The author of Stone Butch Blues, Leslie Feinstein, once write: Gender is the poetry we make of the language we are taught. In Polari Speaking Sex the movement and the choreography becomes embodied poetry created from the language we learn.

MARCUS BALDEMAR

Marcus Baldemar är dansare och koreograf ursprungligen från Kiruna. Han utbildades vid P.A.R.T.S. i Bryssel, Belgien, SEAD i Salzburg, Österrike och vid Balettakademien i Umeå. Marcus har sedan han utexaminerades 2008 verkat inom det internationella fria fältet för scenkonst. Sedan maj 2019 är han åter baserad i Sverige. Som dansare har han samarbetat med en rad koreografer, bl a: Hagar Malin Hellkvist Sellén, David Zambrano, Andros Zins-Browne, Stina Nyberg/The Knife och Ludvig Daae. 

I egenskap av koreograf har han bl a skapat verken GALDR, Love Shrine & Your Majesty – Part 1 och Männen Med Rosa Triangel (i samarbete med Mattias Brunn, Mårten Andersson, Daniel Åkerström Steen och Riksteatern). 

MARIANA SUIKKANEN GOMES

Mariana Suikkanen Gomes är skådespelare och scenkonstnär och har en kandidatexamen i LIVE ARTS från Kingston University samt en master, Den autonoma skådespelaren, från Stockholms dramatiska högskola. Mariana är involverad i ett flertal långsiktiga processer och samarbeten – exempelvis trion GLQ/GomesLechQuigley samt en serie egna verk under samlingstiteln TENDER PROTEST SERIES. Som performer har hon arbetat med bland andra Fiksdal & Floen, Sidney Leoni, Lundahl & Seitl och Marina Abramovic.

VIKTORIA ANDERSSON

Viktoria kommer från Umeå men är baserad i Stockholm. Hon arbetar som dansare och skådespelerska. Hon var länge en del av det Franska danskompaniet Kubilai Kahn men har även arbetat med koreografer som Ludvig Daae, Marcus Baldemar, Nicole Neidert och Dani Brown. Viktoria spelade rollen som Atreyu i Nina Westers uppsättning av Den Oändliga Historien på Malmö Stadsteater.

DANIEL ÅKERSTRÖM STEEN

Daniel Åkerström Steen är en Stockholmsbaserad scenograf, kostymör, ljusdesigner och stylist. Han är utbildad vid Stockholms Dramatiska Högskola. Daniel har de senaste 15 åren arbetat för institutionsteatrar i Sverige och Norge. Han är sedan starten en del av det kreativa teamet bakom den svenska artisten Min Stora Sorg. Daniel kommer ursprungligen från Skellefteå, Västerbotten.

MARCUS BALDEMAR

Marcus is a dancer and choreographer originally from Kiruna. He was educated at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels, Belgium, SEAD in Salzburg and at Balettakademien in Umeå. Since he graduated in 2008 he has worked within the international field for contemporary dance and theatre. Since May of 2019 he is based in Sweden full time. As a dancer he has worked/collaborated with a number of choreographer; Hagar Malin Hellkvist Sellén, David Zambrano, Andros Zins-Browne, Stina Nyberg/The Knife and Ludvig Daae to name a few. 

As a choreographer he has created the works GALDR, Love Shrine & Your Majesty-Part 1 as well as Men With a Pink Triangel (a collaboration with Mårten Andersson, Mattias Brunn, Daniel Åkerström Steen and the National Touring Company of Sweden). 

MARIANA SUIKKANEN GOMES

Mariana Suikkanen Gomes is an actor and performance-maker who holds a BA (Hons) in LIVE ARTS from Kingston University and an MA, The Autonomous Actor, from Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts. Mariana is involved in various long-term investigations and collaborations such as HAPPILYFOREVERAFTER #1-#8 with the collective GLQ/GomesLechQuigley and, more recently, her own works within the TENDER PROTEST SERIES. As a performer she has worked with, among others, Fiksdal & Floen, Sidney Leoni, Lundahl & Seitl and Marina Abramovic.

VIKTORIA ANDERSSON

Viktoria was born and raised in Umeå but is based in Stockholm. She works as a dancer and actress. She was a member of the french company Kubilai Kahn for a number of years but has also worked with choreographers such as Ludvig Daae, Marcus Baldemar, Nicole Neidert and Dani Brown. Viktoria played the part of Atreyu in Nina Wester’s production of The Never Ending Story at Malmö City Theatre.  

DANIEL ÅKERSTRÖM STEEN

Daniel is a Stockholm-based set- and costume- and light designer as well as a stylist. He was educated at the Stockholm University of The Arts. Daniel has for the past 15 years worked for theatres in Sweden and Norway. He is also one of the founding members and part of the creative team behind Swedish pop-act Min Stora Sorg/Mi Gran Tristeza. Daniel is originally from Skellefteå, Västerbotten in the north of Sweden.
